Fractal Design is a gallery of fractal images created using custom software that I have been tinkering with over the years. Most of the images on this site are pure fractal images and have not been image processed except for the choice of colors, unless indicated otherwise. I personally prefer simple images that look unique rather than images that have common patterns that have been over processed. I try to obtain these by testing different equations and algorithms, and playing with the parameters and coloring scheme. I know some of the fractals on this site are kind of ugly, but I still think they are interesting in thier own way (or I thought they were when I first added them). It can be hard thinking up names for these images so I get my wife Carmela to help out with that. If it wasn't for her they would all be called 'Swirl'.
The software I am working on includes several powerful features including a unique search algorithm to help the user discover mathematical parameters that will yield the most interesting images. I continually add new features to the software and hope one day to start spending some time making it more user friendly so I can share it with the public. In the mean time, anyone interested in making fractals can find a variety of other fractal generating programs on the web. I am also experimenting with other programs to generate chaotic images. For example, you can find some examples of cellular automata on this site too.
I just started working on this page on May 1, 2004 so it's still kind of raw. If you happen to stumble across this site and are interested in fractals, bookmark this site and come back some time in the future.
